PFY courses offer individuals the chance
to gain competence, qualifications and practical experience
in a range of specific areas.
Many people join our courses for the opportunity to travel,
gain new skills and acquire any experience necessary for a career
change. For some people our courses offer the chance to enhance
their project or expedition experience; for others our courses
simply offer them the chance to go on a holiday with a difference.
Whatever your reasons, our range of courses offers an exciting
alternative to simply going abroad.
Courses can be from one week to one year in duration. Current

Language
Courses
PFY offers Spanish courses in Peru, which
enable you to get a head start to your travels, in an environment
alongside current PFY volunteers working on projects.
Adventure
Courses All our adventure
courses ensure that you get the maximum adventure for as little
impact as possible on your chosen environment.
Current adventure courses include mountaineering courses, kayaking
courses and field guiding courses. Learn how to get the most
out of challenging environments and how to leave them in the
way you love them, wild.
Survival
Courses
PFY offers a variety of survival courses in stunning locations,
mountain, jungle, desert. Ranging from long weekends to month
long options.
You can learn safety and survival skills through practical experience
to help prepare you for a volunteer program or you can enjoy
them in their own right. These courses teach you to live and
survive using the nature around you in a responsible and sustainable
way.
Cultural
Courses
PeruForYou Volunteer Program provides the following cultural
courses for those travelers seeking extra special activities.
JEWELLERY
MAKING:Using materials of wire, ropes and beads, you will learn
the traditional craft of Peruvian jewellery making to create your
own special colourful pieces in Andean patterns. With the help
of our patient and flexible teachers, you will learn skills that
will last a lifetime
WEAVING
COURSES:Learn to use traditional backstrap looms from Pre-Hispanic
times, or a pedal loom, to create your own special pieces. There
are over 50 different types of weaving in the Central Highlands,
and our teachers can teach you many different designs.
DANCING COURSES:Learn many of the local folkloric dances from
experienced dancers. Listen to the histories of each dance, and
study the different costumes of each. Visit the villages where
these dances are performed. Modern dances can also be taught.
COOKING COURSES:Cook delicious and healthy Peruvian dishes, using
our special cookbook compiled by Beverley. This course includes
the fun of shopping at the colorful local market, selecting your
own ingredients and sampling our exotic and ethnic flavors.
MUSIC COURSES:Andean music makes every fiesta come alive! Learn
to play a variety of instruments such as the Andean flute, pan
flute, charango (small guitar) and guitar. Our methods are simple
and practical, with one on one instruction.
GOURD CARVING:Learn this traditional Andean craft from the experts,
creating beautiful decorative and useful pieces. Journey to Cochas,
the village of gourd carvers and visit the house of Delia, our
own National Gourd Carving Champion.
SPINNING AND NATURAL DYES:
This course is a great complement to the weaving course. Natural
dyes have been used in our Valley for thousands of years. Visit
us and explore the countryside with our local people, collecting
plants and herbs to create your own special dyes.
